HOW TO AVOID PAYING FINES TO THE GOVERNMENT AND DAMAGES TO YOUR EMPLOYEES

  • Have well drafted employment letters with all your employees. The employment letters should clearly state all the terms of the employment contract, else the provision of the labour laws would determine the terms of employment;
  • Allow your employees to take their leave; annual leave, maternity leave, etc;
  • Pay them at least minimum wages except they are students or you have less than 10 employees. Even with this, if your business can afford it, pay at least minimum wage to all your employees. The minimum wage in Nigeria is N30,000
  • Deduct their taxes and pensions from their salaries and remit to the appropriate authorities.
  • Never terminate them without notice or salary in lieu;
  • Upon their termination, pay ALL their benefits.

In the event that your organization has breached any of these terms, obtain the services of a business lawyer immediately.
